ZINI BEACH & BUSH CHALLENGE
The inaugural Zini Beach 'n Bush was held on the 22 and 23 of April 2017. This beautiful mix of winding single tracks through the indigenous forest mixed with stints of beach running as the sun came up was enjoyed by all involved.
The first day held a 15km short course and a 27km long course that took runners south of the Umlalazi river, weaving through exciting and diverse trails cut by Lorna Rautenbach, the course designer. The second day hosted a 10km and 21 km short and long course respectively that took runners out towards the Umlalazi river mouth and back along a beautiful track through the mangroves and forest that hugs the river. Various sittings of river birds and a couple of small buck were spoken of after the race.
Runners were welcomed both mornings with coffee and Chelsea buns to ease any nerves and then rewarded for their trail running efforts with an egg and bacon roll at the end of each run. The catering was a real treat, as were the free buffs included in the goodie bag.
A big thank you to the race sponsors Tronox and Richie Ford as well as to all the volunteers and club members who gave graciously of their time to support this event.
Be sure to keep space on your event calendar for next year's event and remember to enter the Mtunzini Bush Run in August this year.
